University Of Cape Town (UCT) Bcom Accounting Requirements

Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting (BCom Accounting) Degree is a 3 year programme that focuses on equipping and developing students to be able to function in a wide range of financial and accounting tasks and to be able to function and add value in private and public sectors.

The CA stream is designed for the students who are interested in qualifying as Chartered Accountants, registered with SAICA.  The students are prepared for the PGDA and SAICA’s Qualifying Professional Examinations. Students in this stream should aim towards the Chartered Accountant qualification.

With this qualification, you could aim to become a key member of a top management team, a tax consultant, financial advisor, financial director, asset manager, information system auditor, a partner in an auditing practice or a forensic auditor.

What are the entrance requirements?

Entry to this programme requires at least a Higher Grade D symbol pass in mathematics and a total of 50 points based on UCT’s rating system, and where the points earned in Mathematics and English are doubled in calculating the total.

Possibilities for postgraduate study?

Graduates will be eligible to apply for Honours-level study in Economics at UCT. This could lead to Master’s and Doctoral studies in Economics or Business at UCT or elsewhere in South Africa or abroad. In addition to the opportunities listed above, graduates will be eligible to apply for any Masters of Business Administration (MBA) programme available in South Africa or abroad.
