Harvard University Housing Portal Eligibility
Graduate Students*
- Full-time, registered, tuition-paying, Harvard graduate students* with an affiliation valid through March 1, 2023 or later.
- *Harvard Extension School students, Summer School students, and undergraduates are not eligible to lease HUH units. They may apply to sublet them during approved sublet periods.
- If you are a newly accepted, incoming eligible graduate student, please apply after March 1, 2022.
- A spouse/domestic partner, child, parent, or sibling of an eligible affiliate may live with a Harvard University Housing resident as an Authorized Occupant.
- Authorized Occupants may not lease an HUH unit or live in with one without the affiliated resident.
- The affiliate must include the Authorized Occupant on their Harvard University Housing Application and then complete and submit an Authorized Occupant Form as part of the lease.
- Authorized Occupants are not permitted to live in Cronkhite Graduate Center or 4-6 Mount Auburn Street.
- Maximum occupancy rules apply.
Faculty and Employees
- Full time is considered 35 hours/week at a minumum.
- Employees who possess, or will possess upon the start of employment, a valid (active) Harvard University I.D. number, receive a Harvard University paycheck and full University benefits.
- Those who have a full time Harvard appointment (or offer for such) as a non-Harvard-paid visiting faculty member, visiting scholar, visiting fellow, non-benefits-eligible postdoctoral fellow, Harvard teaching hospital employee, or a similar affiliation category and possess or will be issued a valid (active) Harvard University I.D. number.
- Those who have a Person of Interest role or a Harvard University library I.D. card number are not eligible.
- If you are currently affiliated with Harvard and are starting a new job, you must submit your new appointment letter to us so we can confirm eligibility.
- Affiliation must be valid through March 1, 2023 at a minimum.
- Faculty and employees are not eligible to live in the Cronkhite Graduate Center.
- Smithsonian affiliates are not eligible to rent or sublet Harvard University Housing.

How To Apply For Harvard Housing
- Before submitting an application, please check your eligibility, the occupancy guidelines, and read all the information in the tabs below.
- We will send an email within three to five business days of receiving your application to let you know if it is approved (validated), denied, or if more information is required.
